Stellenbosch FC has rolled out an ambitious strategy, announcing the signings of three key players just ahead of the January transfer deadline.

The new additions are Shakeel April from Cape Town City, Wonderboy Makhubu from Sekhukhune United, and Asekho Tiwani on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns.

The trio have already reported for training ahead of their upcoming CAF Confederation Cup fixture against CR Belouizdad this weekend. CEO Rob Benadie expressed enthusiasm about the recruitment phase, stating, “We are pleased to conclude the January transfer window by welcoming Shakeel, Wonderboy, and Asekho to the club. We believe these signings, along with earlier additions, have strengthened our squad in key areas, providing a significant boost for the second half of the season.”

April and Tiwani, touted as two of South Africa’s brightest prospects, have made headlines after playing pivotal roles in helping the national Under-20 team clinch the CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations trophy and excelling at the Fifa Under-20 World Cup held in Chile last year. This youth-driven duo could infuse Stellenbosch FC’s squad with energy and potential.

Makhubu brings a different edge to the attack with a history of solid performance. The experienced forward has an impressive record of 15 goals in 38 league appearances for Magesi FC, where he is currently on loan from Sekhukhune United.

His arrival will likely enhance the club’s scoring abilities as they strive for a strong finish this season. In terms of kit numbers, Shakeel April will wear No. 77, Wonderboy Makhubu No. 36, and Asekho Tiwani No. 13.

Meanwhile, Stellenbosch confirmed the transfers of Thato Khiba to Sekhukhune United and Sanele Barns back to Richards Bay. Khiba, who made 43 appearances during his tenure at Stellenbosch, will reunite with his former teammate Lehlogonolo Mojela, who has also moved to Sekhukhune this transfer window.

Barns returns to Richards Bay after a productive 17-month spell at Stellenbosch, where he netted seven goals in 68 outings and earned a call to the Bafana Bafana squad following his performances in the COSAFA Cup.

Furthermore, the club has mutually agreed to part ways with Lesiba Nku, who contributed two goals and four assists in 35 appearances. The management expressed gratitude to Khiba, Barns, and Nku for their services and wished them success in their future endeavours.

As Stellenbosch FC gears up for a crucial phase in their season, fans are eagerly anticipating how the fresh talent will impact their performance on the field.
