Despite images and videos circulating on social media, Elon Musk’s Tesla did not just unveil a new smartphone to rival the iPhone.

The widely shared fake phone was titled the ‘Tesla Pi Phone’ and also had the tagline “Apple should be worried.”

That saw the phone pitted against the latest fleet of iPhone 17 models launched earlier this month.

It’s not clear what the intention of spreading news of a fake phone was, but perhaps to cause some hesitation in new iPhone buyers questioning their next purchase.

Tesla Pi Phone: A Viral Hoax with No Official Announcement

The Facebook Page Trend Fuel posted about the phone, which received over 170,000 likes. The post included a picture of Musk holding the phone with the line: "It's official. The $789 Tesla Pi Phone just changed the entire smartphone game, and it's not just hype.”

Yahoo!news, however, proved that the news is completely fake.

In fact, no credible news outlets carried the story that the new phone had been launched at all.

That doesn’t mean news of the phone still can’t be found in plenty of places on social media, especially YouTube.

Tesla and Musk himself have, of course, not made any announcements about the phone.

It’s also not the first time that fake news has spread about a potential Tesla phone, as last year similar posts surfaced. That, though, was instigated by the fact that Musk had said on social media that Tesla might consider putting out their own phone in the future.

For now, there’s absolutely no Tesla phone, and that’s probably a good thing.
