With more and more people turning to vlogging, the future of the industry will be dictated by compact filming devices, and they don’t come smaller than action cameras.
Whether you go with GoPro, Insta360 Go or DJI, the emphasis is being able to fit an entire studio either in your pocket or a small bag.
Which brand you go with depends largely on personal preference and budget, and the accessories could be a big factor in determining the final product.
In 2026, and even in 2025, poor sound is no longer acceptable, and good wireless microphones mostly come quite cheap (under R1000).
The point is, being able to document whatever and wherever you want— with the least fuss— is the big priority with quality cameras getting smaller and smaller.
For example, if you go with the DJI Osmo Nano, which was released earlier this year, you could leave the viewfinder (vision dock as the manufacturer calls it) behind and take just the main camera piece.
This camera on its own weighs just 52g. The Insta360 Go camera is even less at 35g.
Both cameras, though, are capable of shooting in 4K, and the fact you can use a thumb-size camera to achieve this is mind-boggling.
The Nano can also be wirelessly paired with any DJI mic, and the mic mini receiver, in fact, weighs only 10g. Provided you have a suitable carry pouch to give these tiny units some protection in your pocket, you’re looking at an entire studio equivalent for a total weight of something way less than your smartphone.
It will give the tech-savvy vlogger the ability to shoot anything, anywhere. The possibilities are endless, and if you’re considering buying a camera to get into vlogging or to improve your setup, look no further than one of the excellent action cameras currently available.
