Bolt driver dash cam adoption is highest in South Africa worldwide

Bolt has announced that over 2,700 South African drivers have adopted its approved dash cams, establishing the country as a global leader in the use of safety technology.

According to the e-hailing company, 2,724 local driver-partners are now actively using dash cams to improve safety for both riders and drivers. This places South Africa far ahead of other markets, with Nigeria in second place with 1,596 users and Paraguay third with 1,028.

Bolt said the milestone reflects the country’s strong commitment to safer, more transparent mobility through technology.

The announcement comes as the Department of Transport officially gazettes the National Land Transport Amendment Act (NLTA), which formally recognises Uber, Bolt, and other e-hailing services as part of South Africa’s public transport system. With regulations tightening, e-hailing vehicles have safety features such as panic buttons for rapid emergency response.

Bolt said the rapid adoption of dash cams demonstrates that drivers are moving in the right direction ahead of the new safety requirements.

Simo Kalajdzic, Senior Operations Manager at Bolt South Africa said the milestone shows “what it truly means to put safety first”, noting that the achievement belongs to South African drivers who continue to champion safer mobility.

“South Africa’s drivers have shown the world what it truly means to put safety first. Their rapid adoption of dash cams sends a powerful message: when innovation meets community, real progress happens.”

Kalajdzic added that every dash cam installed is more than a device, it is a commitment to dignity, protection, and trust for every person who enters a vehicle.

“This milestone belongs to our driver partners, and it reflects the kind of future we are building for mobility in South Africa,” he said.

Bolt confirmed that it will expand its dash cam programme to additional provinces, ensuring more drivers can access the technology. The company will also continue working with driver-partners, regulators, and safety organisations to strengthen safety standards across the industry.

Bolt emphasised that safety remains its highest priority, and the high adoption level signals the beginning of a new era in which collaboration and innovation drive safer transport solutions for all.
