Would you pay to sleep in a pod while in transit at an airport?

Opinions are divided among netizens regarding the use of sleeping pods at airports.

Travel content creator Lounge Guru recently shared his experience on TikTok, showcasing his time spent in a sleeping pod at Istanbul International Airport.

The video has garnered over 31.1 million views, highlighting the growing interest in this trend.

In the footage, the creator is seen packing his belongings into a pod that resembles a coffin before lying down to sleep.

After a flight delay of four hours, he opted to take a nap in the pod.

"I found these pods for €12 per hour. I was exhausted and really needed a nap. A friendly lady brought me a fresh pillow and a blanket," he explained.

While he managed to catch some sleep, he noted, "I caught some sleep, but it was a little hot inside."

The iGA Sleeppods are located airside near Gate D in the international terminal, costing €12 per hour during the day and up to €20 per hour at night.

Each pod features a USB port, a regular socket, a luggage compartment, and a disposable blanket.

Some pods are larger than others, providing a solid option for a quick nap.

However, they are not fully enclosed, meaning light and noise from the terminal can seep in, and it can get warm during the day.

Additionally, there is no wake-up service, so it's essential to set your alarm.

Reactions from social media users have varied.

@simi__rai commented, "We once stayed at Qatar airport sleeping pods, and it was so much better than this. An actual room with two bunk beds and a nightstand."

Meanwhile, @mrsbigbite expressed concerns about claustrophobia, stating, "My claustrophobia could never."

@c4tum1 added, "I'd be anxious thinking about someone stealing my shoes," while @steph91892 remarked, "I want a nap; I don't want to feel like I’m in a coffin and dead."

On the other hand, @mr.shisko noted, "People who complain about the price, it’s an airport. Everything is always expensive, lol."

The rise of airport sleeping pods is a significant trend, driven by increased air travel, longer layovers, and a growing demand for comfortable, private resting spaces.

These compact, technologically advanced pods offer an affordable alternative to hotels, featuring amenities such as Wi-Fi, charging stations, and climate control to enhance passenger experience and satisfaction.

Airports are increasingly adopting these pods to meet evolving passenger expectations for convenience, wellness, and a personalised, rejuvenating travel experience.
