At just 20 years old, Talitha Luiters has already made history as the youngest singer ever to perform the national anthem at a rugby match and it was a moment to remember.

Dressed in a breathtaking emerald green gown with her hair sleekly pulled back, Talitha commanded the stage with a poise beyond her years. But it was when she took the microphone that the real magic happened. The crowd, fully captivated, could be seen singing along with their eyes closed, immersed in the emotion of the moment.

Reflecting on the experience, Talitha said, “It felt surreal standing on that field, knowing millions were watching. I felt such pride and responsibility, and once I began singing, it was as if everything I’d worked for led to that exact moment.”

Her story is all the more inspiring given her roots in Atlantis, a coastal town on the West Coast often overshadowed by social challenges. Talitha said, “My family has always been my backbone, and my community gave me resilience. Growing up in Atlantis taught me to believe in possibility, even when circumstances suggested otherwise.”

Talitha’s journey began in childhood. “I’ve been singing since I was little, I think around nine years old. Music has always been my safe space. I’ve been inspired by so many, but especially the people close to me who believed in my voice before I did. I never imagined I’d come this far so soon, but I always carried a vision that God would take me places.”

Despite her talent, access to opportunities was a challenge.

“One of the hardest challenges was access to opportunities, but I kept pushing, performing wherever I could and turning every ‘no’ even if they almost never could say no, into motivation. My faith, family, and determination carried me through.”

Talitha hopes her story will inspire others. “I want young people to know that where you come from doesn’t define where you can go. Your dreams are valid and achievable, even when they feel impossible.”

Speaking about the anthem, she added, “Singing the anthem was deeply emotional for me. It’s a symbol of unity and hope, and in that moment, I felt connected to every South African.”

Looking ahead, Talitha dreams big. “Looking ahead, I want to create music that touches hearts and carries South Africa’s soul with me wherever I go. I dream of performing internationally, while also inspiring young people back home to believe in their own voices.”

On social media people commented about how beautiful Talitha's rendition of the anthem was, even challenging Rassie Erasmus to employ her as a member of the Bokke to sing the anthem wherever they go.
