Howzit Chommie, a platform designed to connect Durban locals with vetted service providers, was soft-launched on October 19.

This innovative platform, spearheaded by Durbanite Sandrika Chetty, aims to simplify the process of finding and booking trusted professionals in the city, offering a new way for freelancers and small businesses to grow their client base.

Chetty, a seasoned entrepreneur, highlighted that the idea stemmed from her personal struggle to gain visibility for her yoga business.

“Starting out, I found it difficult to connect with new clients in a meaningful way. I wanted to create a space where service providers could stand out without having to navigate the complexities of social media algorithms," she explained.

"With Howzit Chommie, businesses can focus on building relationships with their customers and grow their networks organically."

Pascal Naidoo, an eager future customer and supplier, sees the platform as a valuable tool for small businesses.

“Many of us are freelancers or run small operations, so exposure is crucial. I believe Howzit Chommie will level the playing field, making it easier for us to connect with clients directly, without the noise and competition of larger, established companies,” said Naidoo.

Howzit Chommie’s soft launch introduced the platform to a diverse group of professionals, including chefs, photographers, wellness instructors, and event planners.

The app is powered by Circular X, a tool that fosters digital communities, and aims to make it easier for users to find and book professionals from a range of industries including beauty, health, entertainment, and culinary services.

Service providers go through a vetting process before being listed on the platform, ensuring that users have access to top-quality professionals. For Durban locals, this means finding services like private chefs, photographers, and event planners with just a few clicks.

Yuri Moodley, a private chef who has joined Howzit Chommie, praised the platform’s unique approach: “Howzit Chommie is a wonderful place for experts in specialised industries to showcase their talents without having to deal with mainstream media or social media algorithms.”

Photographer Kaylee Ann Mellor, another service provider registered on the platform, expressed her excitement about being part of the community. “I’m excited to connect with talented, like-minded people to work together and support one another,” she said.

Chetty envisions a bright future for the platform. "In the short term, I hope to see an increase in engagement on the app and more professionals coming on board. The goal is to create a space where people can easily find trusted services while allowing small businesses to grow through word-of-mouth and collaboration."

Naidoo echoed this sentiment, adding that for freelancers, Howzit Chommie could help reduce the reliance on expensive marketing strategies.

“Instead of spending a fortune on advertising, I see Howzit Chommie becoming a go-to for people who want reliable service providers without all the marketing fluff," he said.

To access Howzit Chommie, customers can download the Circular X app, register, and explore the available services. Professionals interested in joining the platform can contact Sandrika
