Cape Town – The Cape Town Jazzathon, the Mother City’s premier festival for grassroots Jazz, is back with a bang at the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre on Friday.
The event returns to its traditional venue for the first time since 2020 after being cancelled due to the pandemic.
Cape Town Jazzathon also hosted a 25th Anniversary celebration event at GrandWest during 2022.
The ‘People’s Festival’, as the Jazzathon is known, kicks off on Friday, January 13, 2023 and will run until Sunday, 15 January 2023.
The event is free and open to members of the public.
With a jam-packed programme, lovers of jazz, fusion and music can enjoy at least six performances daily between midday and 8pm.
“The Cape Town Jazzathon has been a mainstay on the City’s annual events calendar for the last 25 years and we are thrilled to have the event back at the V&A Waterfront.
“Over the last quarter of a century, the event has served as a platform for the discovery and development of emerging artists who have gone on to make a name for themselves in the music industry.
“The City of Cape Town’s support for this event is based on its ability to provide opportunities for young musicians to showcase their talent while also offering them mentorship programmes on the business side of music,” said mayco member for safety and security JP Smith.
The Cape Town Jazzathon has already hosted workshops for developing artists at community schools across Cape Town and will hold similar programmes for the Karoo, the West Coast and Garden Route.
