Cape Town – A dog that likes being bathed or showering by itself – let alone being willing to sit in a bath with running water – is a rarity.
We have all battled to convince even the smallest of pups to enter this sanctum of hygiene. After all, nothing beats rolling around in the mud.
Yet, here we have this pup gleefully defying all logic. No need to hold it down due to endless squirming. This one probably gets excited whenever its owner goes close to the bathroom.
Generally, it doesn't make sense: your dog adores swimming but objects strongly to being put in a bathtub? According to the experts, it's not merely an aversion to getting wet.
My local vet says some dogs detest baths because they find bathtub floors to be uncomfortable and hard to stand on. Then there's also the fear of running water.
With their acute sense of smell, it's especially the shampoos with fragrances they disdain. What's needed is a shampoo specifically for canines.
Like some toddlers initially, they also need to be calmed down and reassured that it's going to be a pleasant experience.
No need to convince this pup, though!
