The body of the unidentified boy was found dumped in an open field bound with cellotape around the legs and across the mouth.
Cape Town - The body of an unidentified boy around 10 years old was found dumped in an open field in Philippi on Monday, bound with cellotape.
Philippi’s Ward 35 councillor Nico Mzalisi said the dead boy was found with cellotape around the legs and across the mouth.
Police spokesperson FC Van Wyk said a murder case was opened for investigation.
“The body of an unidentified boy who is about 10 years old was found on Monday, 2022-09-26 at about 13:19 at a bush off Weltevrede Road Philippi.
“A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death. Police are busy following up on all leads and urge the public to come forward with information that can assist in the investigation,” said Van Wyk.
Mzalisi urged residents who might have information regarding the incident to contact the police
“We have no idea what is happening in this world. In every open field around Philippi and Nyanga, there is always a dead body found. I can't even count how many times we have been attending to dumped dead bodies of both the old and the young. The problem is that people build shacks in places that are not good for their health and their safety. Something seriously needs to be done about this and it is out of our hands now and I hope that the NGO’s and the government are taking note of death at informal settlements almost every weekend,” said Mzalisi.
