Cape Town – Two murderers were handed hefty sentences at the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court this week after facing charges of housebreaking with the intent to rob, attempted rape, robbery with aggravating circumstances and the murder of 23-year-old Sinalo Ntlemeza.
Hawks spokesperson, Zinzi Hani, said the accused – Mark Julies, 30, and Marco Johnson, 31 – were convicted on July 13 and sentenced on Tuesday.
“The two accused were arrested in 2016 following the murder and housebreaking which occurred at Heinz Park in Nyanga, Cape Town, on 25 May 2016. It was reported that the deceased’s lifeless body was found by her brother. Her decomposed body was discovered with multiple stab wounds to the neck,” said Hani.
Julies was sentenced to 22 years imprisonment for the murder, eight years for housebreaking, and 12 years for robbery. The sentences will run concurrently, effectively serving 22 years behind bars.
Johnson was found guilty on all charges he faced
“On count 1, 2 and 4 he was sentenced the same as Julies and he was also additionally found guilty on count 3 which is attempted rape wherein he was sentenced to six (6) years’ imprisonment. All four counts will run concurrently and he will effectively serve twenty two (22) years direct imprisonment,” said Hani.
Hani added: “The acting provincial head Brigadier Piet Bergh commended the members for the good work that led to the successful prosecution of the accused.”
