Durban — The INJEJE yabeNGUNI Council has welcomed the announcement by the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal of their choice of Nomusa Dube-Ncube as the premier-elect of the KZN provincial government.

The council said its executive assembly recently declared “The Future is Female” campaign to deliberately support women leaders ascending into key positions politically and otherwise.

This led the council to boldly support Dube-Ncube, Zandile Gumede, advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane, Dudu Myeni, Bathabile Dlamini, Khabo Nene, Lindiwe Sisulu and Mama Khawula, among others.

Executive Assembly national secretariat Langalezwe Chonco said it was thus an achievement that the new leadership has recognised the wisdom allowing the best performing MEC to become the premier.

“Our council has confidence in the abilities, experience and ideological clarity of Dube-Ncube to be able to ensure that the provincial government returns to being a government of the people by the people. We applaud the ANC KZN PEC in this regard,” said Chonco.

Chonco said that although the council does not get involved in political parties, they do, however, carry the inherent responsibility of preserving and defending the African agenda even if it means going against those identified as threats to the advancement.

“Based on the INJEJE’s Information Sourcing Unit report, our members were sincerely disturbed by the role played by Zandile Gumede and Bathabile Dlamini in working against Dube-Ncube's ascension to become ANC KZN chairperson.

“They project themselves publicly as proponents of radical economic transformation, yet their behind-the-scenes actions demonstrate them to be anti the transformation they purport to represent. This is most certainly not something that our council can not take very lightly and unfortunately it is not something that we can forgive. The advancement of the African agenda necessitates that individuals who place their narrow pathetic interests must not be allowed to command any power and ought to be shown no mercy,” said Chonco.

The Executive Assembly has placed Gumede and Dlamini immediately on the list of enemies of IZITHA zabeNGUNI alongside Cyril Ramaphosa, Pravin Gordhan and Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, among others.

Chonco said they were hopeful that political parties across the province that represent an African constituency seize the opportunity to allow KZN to make history where it will have its woman premier.
