OPINION - If or when proven true in a court of law, the alleged myriad corrupt business practices by Bosasa executives, including bribes described as “monopoly money”, being revealed at the Zondo Commission, would reaffirm that corruption and theft of public resources are not only prevalent in the public sector but also in the private circles.
Over many years South Africans have been reading in the mass media about scandals between private businesses and government officials. We have read about the tobacco smuggling industry, the private security industry, the Guptas, the multibillion-rand arms deal, tender-related fraud and other dirty business activities.
These scandals provide President Cyril Ramaphosa with a unique opportunity to prove to South Africans that he is determined to eradicate corruption and restore their faith in the government. Now that it is all out in the public space, criminal charges must be laid and the givers and receivers of bribes and other cronies in the chain of these scandals, including auditors, must be brought to book. Other pending cases and investigations must be urgently concluded and the rule of law equally followed for all cases.
Corruptors are foxy people and should be charged for treason as they rob the country and South Africans of service delivery, progress and nation building.
