After nearly two decades of speculation and anticipation, fans of the post-apocalyptic thriller “I Am Legend” are finally getting closer to seeing the sequel.

Award-winning actor, Will Smith confirmed the news recently.

The original film, directed by Francis Lawrence and released in 2007, captured the harrowing journey of Dr Robert Neville, played by Smith, as he navigated a virus-ravaged New York City, confronting the terrifying "Darkseekers" that emerged in the wake of humanity's demise.

In a recent appearance on xQc’s “Twitch” livestream, Smith revealed that he and “Creed” star Michael B. Jordan have been deeply involved in the development of “I Am Legend 2” with Akiva Goldsman, the writer behind the original movie, returning to steer the narrative ship.

“Me and Michael B. Jordan, we sat down for about a week, just went through, you know, character stuff ... I love to work with that dude, he really gets it. I work with a lot of young actors and young performers and it’s like there’s a difference between actors and movie stars.

“So actors can come in and do their part well ... A movie star understands the whole machine and knows how to present themselves all the way from the concept of an idea to the delivery on on the red carpet in 190+ countries in the world.

“So there’s a scope of understanding that Michael B. Jordan has that everybody doesn’t have,” shared Smith.

Meanwhile, an earlier interview with “Collider”, Goldsman clarified, “We’re sequelizing the alternate cut. The one where Will lives and things didn’t go so well for humanity.”

While plot details remain tightly under wraps, the script's potential journey is brimming with possibilities.

The official release date for “I Am Legend 2” is yet to be announced, but the growing enthusiasm and insights shared by Smith promise a compelling cinematic journey ahead and fans can not wait.
