Three decades after its debut, this bold retelling of the Faust legend still packs a punch. It’s a wild and darkly humorous journey which follows Faustus as he strikes a dangerous deal and sets off on a chaotic adventure across Africa.

Expect William Kentridge’s signature animated visuals and a stellar cast, including Atandwa Kani and Jennifer Steyn.

They are joined by Wessel Pretorius, Eben Genis, Mongi Mthombeni, Asanda Rilityana and Buhle Stefane.

Their performances breathe life into this irreverent reimagining of the classic “Faustian Pact”, which is a cautionary tale that remains as relevant today as ever.

And with Lara Foot as associate director, the production is set to be both visually striking and deeply thought-provoking.

Meanwhile, The Handspring Puppet Company, famous for their work on “War Horse”, is once again bringing the magic to the stage as they have created puppets that feel as alive as the actors themselves.

In addition, the haunting soundtrack, featuring music by Warrick Sony and the late James Phillips, adds another layer to this multi-sensory experience.

At its heart, “Faustus in Africa!” is a sharp and thought-provoking take on moral compromise - the kind of choices that shape the world we live in today.

The story digs into the uneasy trade-offs people make for power, wealth and survival, drawing uncanny links to real-world crises like climate destruction and unchecked greed.

Against this backdrop, Faustus embarks on a wild and darkly comedic safari across Africa, indulging in excess and self-interest while chaos follows in his wake.

Verkleurvroutjie (chameleon)

Ilne Fourie is back and this time, she’s bringing something entirely unique to the stage.

Her new one-woman Afrikaans show, “Verkleurvroutjie,” (chameleon) takes the concept of interactive theatre to a whole new level. Forget the usual rigid performances – this time, it’s all about choice.

Fourie offers an ever-changing experience where the audience holds the power to dictate what comes next. Whether it’s opera, comedy, drama or something in between, Fourie effortlessly shifts between genres, ensuring that no two performances are the same.

Known for her celebrated roles in “Laerskool Noord,” “Sjarrap en eet jou kos!,” and as Tannie Adrie in “Wyfie” on Showmax, Fourie is a master of transformation.

In “Verkleurvroutjie” the audience gets to decide what they want to see: will it be a moment of heart-wrenching drama, a laugh-out-loud comedy or perhaps an operatic masterpiece? The power is in your hands.

Drawing inspiration from the chameleon-like nature of the show’s title, “Verkleurvroutjie” showcases Fourie’s ability to adapt to any genre, style or mood – each performance as colourful and dynamic as the rainbow itself.

Thrill Me: The Leopold & Loeb Story

“Thrill Me: The Leopold & Loeb Story” is a gripping modern musical written by Stephen Dolginoff, based on the real-life crime committed by Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb in 1924.

Known as the "thrill killers," the pair murdered a 14-year-old boy in an attempt to commit the "perfect crime." The musical, directed by Chris Weare, tells their story in flashbacks, starting with a parole hearing in 1958.

The production features two standout performances by Gianluca Gironi and John Conrad, who portray the complex and chilling relationship between Leopold and Loeb. Dolginoff’s book, music and lyrics build a tense atmosphere, with haunting melodies that reflect the darkness of the crime and the psychological depth of the characters.

Critically acclaimed, the production has been described by “The New York Times” as "arresting and a bit breathtaking," highlighting its powerful impact.

This musical is a deep dive into obsession, manipulation, and the twisted dynamics of the two men.

It’s a must-see for fans of thrilling, thought-provoking theatre.
