London - Aston Martin has celebrated the launch of the new Vantage with a special portfolio of video and still images by top photographer John Rankin Waddell, founder of influential fashion magazine Dazed and Confused.
The brief was to capture the catchphrase “Beautiful won’t be tamed”, portraying the new Vantage as the archetypal hunter. Rankin has made of it a classic story of rivalry, and of a car bred on the track for driving pleasure on the road.
Making the video involved two shoots - a dynamic two-day session at the Atlanta Motorsports Park, with actors, stunt drivers, drones and a chase car, to create the storyline and a static shoot in Rankin’s London studio that included bringing a wolf on set to bring out the predatory persona of Aston Martin’s stripped-back new performance flagship.
“It’s two drivers exploring the limits, vying for dominance over each other,’ Rankin explained. “It finishes with a tense stand-off, waiting for the next move.”
And there’s also a twist in the tail that we won’t tell you about; watch the video for yourself.
