Johannesburg - Mitsubishi has extended its recall of vehicles fitted with Takata airbags to include the front passenger airbag on Pajero SUVs made from 2007 to 2013.
The recall now affects more than 30 million vehicles from 34 manufacturers worldwide.
The purpose of the recall is to replace the inflator on the passenger side airbag of certain Pajero models, which have been identified as being at risk if the car has been subjected to high humidity and wide temperature variation over a long period of time.
Mitsubishi Motors SA has already begun contacting owners of these Pajeros to schedule free-of-charge replacement of the passenger airbag inflator on their cars. Since you have to get inside the dashboard to get to the airbag mechanism, it’s a bit more complicated than replacing the driver’s air-bag, which is in the hub of the steering wheel, so the job will take about two hours.
