Power utility Eskom has warned residents in some of Sandton’s most sought after suburbs and business district that they would be without power for at least 9 hours on Friday.

Unlike in Soweto and the Braamfischerville, where the scheduled and planned maintenance was set to persist for at least three days between Tuesday and Thursday, the power would be cut only on Friday in Sandton.

The affected suburbs include the Benmore and Sandown suburbs, which are both near the Sandton Central Business District.

Eskom said in a notice that the outages would take place from 9am until 6pm.

“The outage will affect customers in Benmore and Sandown on Friday, 11 October 2024 from 09:00 - 18:00.

“The interruption in electricity supply is necessary to perform essential maintenance on our distribution power lines.

“In the interest of safety, customers are advised to treat all electrical appliances as live at all times during the power supply outage,” said Eskom in a public notice.

Earlier this week, the power utility had similar maintenance outages in Soweto, as officials replaced rotten poles which carry medium voltage powerlines.

The power utility has been able to keep the lights on after concerted efforts by the new Eskom leadership led by chief executive Dan Marokane and support from Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa.

Eskom expects a load shedding free festive summer and festive season, with their outlook predicting load shedding in March next year.

To date, South Africa has had uninterrupted load shedding free days for a 198 days.
