Advocate Dali Mpofu announced on Thursday morning that he has left the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Party to join Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto weSizwe (MK Party).
In an interview with SABC Morning Live, Mpofu pointed to the Government of National Unity (GNU) as one of reasons for his departure from the party.
He said that the GNU is a betrayal of the liberation struggle in South Africa. Additionally, he stated that he believes that the MK Party truly represents his personal desire for national unity.
Mpofu’s exodus has lead to heated discussions online about the EFF’s leadership and its future.
One X (Twitter) user invoked religious themes and posted: “The EFF and Julius Malema, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail. We are being pruned We are fine. Stand tall Fighters. Nothing we have lost we need to continue our fight. We have each other.”
Julius Malema also put out a statement, saying: “Only two more of your favourites remain, and the list will be finalised. They sing beautifully and are always willing to pose for pictures and sign roll calls, but remember, their souls are long gone.”

Malema added that to avoid potential harm, it is critical to follow the leadership’s direction. He stated that the party is still standing and is not going anywhere under a criminal syndicate.
Another user on X remarked that people told EFF members that this was inevitable, but that no one listened. They accused members of protecting Malema who ‘acts like a dictator’.
“People are tired of him. Malema does not care about South African citizens. He only wants to be admired by Africans, which boosts his ego and pride,” she wrote.
Another individual tagged Malema’s account and said this year people have seen emerging parties which were formed against the EFF leader.
“Capitalists dishing money left right and centre just to block you from going to the Union Buildings. We saw former presidents revived from dustbin of politics just to fight you. We are proud of you.”
The EFF will never recover from this, commented another individual. “Malema will never say it out loud. But he needs to do some serious self-introspection. I mean being left by Dali Mpofu and Floyd (Shivambu) is a devastating blow. These people were there for him at his lowest during his expulsion from the ANC. Now they have left him.”
Another person congratulated Mpofu for leaving a ‘sinking ship’, saying that the only smart person left in the party is Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, and that if he also leaves, then it is game over, with Malema being left with ‘mediocre domkops’ like Marshall (Mzingisi Dlamini).
“Jacob Zuma is destroying Julius Malema’s life for the second time. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, can’t put the blame on you. Mind you, Zuma had Malema expelled for advancing the very sentiments the MK Party is apparently advocating for right now,” said an X user.
