It may not have been quite the nearly R20m payday like a week prior in Saudi Arabia, but Dean Burmester and Charl Schwartzel each pocketed a handy $312,500 (R5.76m) for finishing in a tie for 12th at the LIV Golf Adelaide event on Sunday.

Burmester was the top SA player in Riyadh in fourth place as he banked R18.4m.

Flash forward a week, and both Burmester and Schwartzel finished just inside the top-15 Down Under.

It was indeed a handsome payday still, considering they finished outside the top-10 on five-under in the three-day Saudi-funded tournament.

Decent payouts

Louis Oosthuizen and Branden Grace finished much further down in a share of 37th, as they each earned a payout of $135,000 (R2.49m).

The team competition saw the four SA players representing Stingers GC well down in eighth position.

After the tournament, Oosthuizen said the event was a bit of a battle for himself and Grace.

“Branden was injured, and I struggled badly this week. Dean and Charl played well, but they needed Branden and me to step up,” said Oosthuizen.

“The course played really tough, and the wind conditions were very different from what we experienced before.

“But looking ahead, it’s a good learning curve for next year—we now know what to expect. Overall, it was a fantastic week for LIV Golf. We love coming to Adelaide. Now, all focus shifts to Hong Kong.”

Two of the four SA players on the LIV Golf circuit are major winners with Oosthuizen’s victory at the 2010 Open Championship and his good mate Schwartzel’s win at the Masters the following year.
