Durban – A case of murder and robbery is being investigated by the SAPS following the murder of a foreign national in Amoutana near Trenance Park in Verulam on Sunday morning.

According to Prem Balram, the spokesperson for security company, Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), the 50-year-old man was murdered in the presence of his family after three unknown men forced their way into his home.

Balram said they received a call for assistance at about 1.39am from a resident after they heard the victim’s wife screaming for help.

He said the officers from the unit were dispatched to the scene.

“Reaction officers were dispatched to the scene and on arrival discovered the Mozambican national lying on his bed.

“He was unresponsive. Medics were called to the scene and discovered a penetrating wound to the left side of his chest.

“The extent of his injury resulted in his demise,” said Balram.

Balram said the victim’s wife informed Rusa they were asleep when they heard their front door being kicked in.

“The deceased woke up and confronted three men who were armed with knives.

“A scuffle ensued when he was stabbed.

“The suspects stole a cellphone and fled on foot.

“The injured man’s wife started screaming for assistance and neighbours contacted Rusa,” he said.

Provincial spokesperson for the SAPS, Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala confirmed the incident.

“We can confirm the incident where a 50-year-old man was assaulted and fatally stabbed on the chest by three unknown people at his place of residence at Amaotana in Inanda,” she said.
