Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) officers have foiled an attempted cash-in-transit heist where the suspected thieves fled the scene at Twelve Road in Geluksdal, Tsakane.

EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel spokesperson Kelebogile Thepa said EMPD found SAPS members at the scene.

“The perpetrators fled the scene and no money was taken. There was a motor vehicle left abandoned by the perpetrators in the middle of the street that was allegedly used in the attempted heist. The EMPD officers cordoned off the scene, closing off Twelve Road from Geluksdal Extension 12 to KwaThema near a church,” she said.

She said that no arrests have been made and the vehicle allegedly used by the perpetrators has been seized pending investigation.

“Traffic was redirected to Black Road for motorists who wanted to proceed to Brakpan and Springs, while other motorist detoured through Geluksdal Extension 13,” added Thepa.
