Johannesburg - The Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) said that the water supply at Helen Joseph Hospital has been fully restored.

This comes after the department said on Tuesday afternoon that the hospital in Rossmore was experiencing a shortage in water supply, which affected services in some parts of the facility. These include the emergency department, theatre and ICU, as well as wards in the higher floors of the hospital.

“The shortage of water supply is because of challenges experienced by Johannesburg Water since over the weekend. The utility has supplied water tanks to pump water into the system. This intervention has helped to ensure that the hospital services continue, albeit under constrained circumstances. In the interim the facility has sourced mobile toilets to ensure that patients and staff have access to ablution services,” the health department spokesperson, Motalatale Modiba said.

Modiba added that the hospital’s borehole is supplying water to some areas, including the kitchen, so cooking services for patients were not affected.

On Wednesday, the department announced to the public, patients and their families that the water supply at Helen Joseph Hospital has since been fully restored.

“The water pressure level started normalising last night at 9pm and we continue to monitor the situation. Health services are continuing as normal,” Modiba said.
