RWANDA-born goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari has bid farewell to his club TS Galaxy, heightening reports of his imminent signing with Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs.

The 24-year-old shot-stopper is said to be on the verge of joining Amakhosi after spending just one season with The Rockets.

Ntwari featured 24 times for Galaxy last season in all competitions, maintaining nine clean sheets and helping the side finish sixth on the Premiership standings.

He has since written a gratitude-filled letter to Galaxy and their staff members.

“As I say goodbye, I want to thank the chairman Tim Sukazi for the opportunity he gave me to play for this beautiful club and the coaching staff, headed by Sead Ramovic and goalkeeper coach Greg Etafia, for giving me my first professional debut and to my teammates. You guys welcomed me with both hands, I appreciate your love,” he wrote on Instagram.

“To the Rockets fans, I really appreciate the love you showed me, thank you. I wish you all the best TS Galaxy. Always leave the jersey in a better place.”

Ntwari is set to join Chiefs in Türkiye, where they are holding their pre-season preparations.

Chiefs’ new-look technical team, led by Tunisian tactician Nasreddine Nabi, have been seen running up and raising the intensity on the training pitch ahead of the 2024/25 season.

One of the players looking to impress Nabi and his management group is Chiefs sensation Mfundo ‘Obrigado’ Vilakazi.

The 18-year-old has developed something of a cult following, and having signed his senior contract halfway through last season, he is now a fully-fledged first-team player.

Speaking to SuperSport this week, the Soweto-born attacking midfielder revealed the team’s training regimen while in Europe, and stated that he drew inspiration from his family.

“My pre-season so far is very good because I’m someone who likes to work hard, and we work hard here (in camp in Türkiye),” Vilakazi said.

“We train three times a day: in the morning, doing the jogging. During the day, we go to the gym and in the afternoon, we go on the pitch.

“I keep myself motivated by reminding myself that at home, they are relying on me, so if I give up, I would be disappointing my parents.”

Amakhosi are looking to end a long-standing trophy drought that has clouded the club for nearly 10 years.

The club has seen many coaches and players come and leave Naturena, and their poor 2023/24 campaign saw head coaches Molefi Ntseki and Cavin Johnson given the chop, having finished 10th on the league standings.

A club known for its richness in gold medals for decades is looking to kickstart a new generation of Glamour Boys, spearheaded by some of the most exciting young talent in the country, as well as a unique technical team.
