As part of its commitment to supporting the youth and fostering a brighter future, the KwaZulu-Natal International Business Association (Kiba) is distributing 1 000 pairs of school shoes and 1 000 lunch boxes to underprivileged children.

“Kiba has always been at the forefront of helping communities wherever there is a need. During the Covid-19 pandemic, we distributed essential items to vulnerable communities. We were there during the floods in Tongaat, the July floods, and even the devastating tornadoes in the north coast, stepping in to support those affected,” said the president of Kiba, Omie Singh.

“While we are a business organisation, the businessmen and women of Kiba have always gone beyond profit-making to contribute meaningfully to society, and we are immensely grateful for their dedication and generosity.

“As the president of Kiba, I hold this initiative close to my heart. I understand the struggles of children, who lack basic necessities because I, too, experienced this as a young child. Growing up without the means to afford school shoes left a lasting impression on me.

“After spending 25 years serving as a Member of Parliament, I am determined to give back to the community that shaped me. I have not had a silver spoon in my mouth, and it is these experiences that drive my passion for initiatives like this.”

Over the course of this project, Kiba has distributed donations to 57 schools across four circuits: Phoenix central, Phoenix north circuit, Verulam, and Tongaat.

“The school shoes, intended for primary school boys and girls, were distributed equitably, with 50% going to black learners and 50% to other race groups.

“Education is the foundation of opportunity, and by providing these resources, we aim to empower young minds and ensure they step into the school year with confidence and dignity.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to all our members and supporters who continuously step up to make projects like this possible. Together, we are not just building businesses but fostering a culture of care and compassion in our communities. We look forward to working together to create a brighter future for our children.”
