Some parts of the Cape Flats will experience water disruptions this weekend as the City of Cape Town implements maintenance to its bulk water supply network.
The maintenance work will result in either no water supply or low water pressure in some areas from 1am on Friday until 3am on Monday.
“This shutdown is necessary to conduct crucial maintenance work on an important section and components of our bulk water supply network. While we regret the inconvenience this will cause to many of our residents, delaying this work has the potential for even greater risk to our water supply in the near future. It is being done over a weekend to minimise the impact on residents,” said Mayco member for water and sanitation, Zahid Badroodien.
Badroodien said while most areas affected by the maintenance will experience low water pressure, others like Pelican Heights, Peacock Close and Schaapkraal will have no water.
There will be standpipes and water tankers in these areas to provide water for essential use.
The details of the water tanker locations will be communicated later in the week.
The following areas are expected to experience low water pressure.
*Browns Farm/Philippi
*Eagle Park, Grassy Park
*Parts of Site C in Khayelitsha
*Lavender Hill,
*Lotus River,
*Manenberg
*Mitchells Plain
* Muizenberg,
*Ottery,
*Parkwood
*Retreat
*Seawinds
*Steenberg,
*Strandfontein
*Surrey Estate
*Vrygrond
* Wetton and Zeekoevlei.
Residents have been advised to store water in clean, sealed containers before Friday, and to use water sparingly and for essential purposes once the disruptions begin.
