Some of Europe’s biggest clubs are about to find themselves dragged into a monumental transfer saga after Chelsea star Cole Palmer reportedly told the London club he wanted to leave.
UK newspaper The Sun report that the 23-year-old England international is frustrated with Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior’s tactics while also struggling to connect on the field with a number of his teammates.
Under Enzo Maresca, Cole Palmer was used as a high, structured attacking focal point – typically as a No. 10 or right-sided attacker positioned close to goal, where his main job was to receive in dangerous areas and finish moves, which drove his strong goals and assists output.
That’s changed under Rosenior, where his role has seen him given more responsibility in build-up and linking play across phases, often dropping into midfield and roaming across the pitch. This has coincided with the club’s struggles in the Premier League.
The report suggests Palmer, who graduated from Manchester City’s academy, would be open to a move to Manchester United, the club he supported as a boy. It is understood that Spanish giants Real Madrid, and German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are also keeping tabs
Palmer joined Chelsea ahead of the 2023/24 season, and has gone on to score 53 goals in all competitions for the Londoners.
The club currently find themselves sixth in the Premier League, and are at risk of missing out of the UEFA Champions League next season.
If tensions continue to simmer, Chelsea could soon be forced into a defining decision – reshape their system around one of the league’s most gifted attackers, or cash in and risk losing a player capable of elevating them back into Europe’s elite, with the coming transfer window now shaping up as a pivotal moment in both Palmer’s career and the club’s immediate future.
